Past and present
For over a decade, I have been pursuing a career that bridges my love for writing and storytelling with my passions for the ocean and the history of Hong Kong and the surrounding region.
I have a BA in Modern China Studies and a Master of Journalism degree from the University of Hong Kong. I also pursued Chinese and American studies at the Hopkins-Nanjing Center and maritime archaeology at the University of Malta, and won scholarships to study Chinese literature and language at Shanghai Jiaotong University and National Taiwan University.
Most recently, I was the Managing Editor for the China Media Project in Taipei. Before that, I worked at TaiwanPlus, The Washington Post, TIME, The Wall Street Journal, Hong Kong Free Press, South China Morning Post, Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa), and That’s Shanghai. My reporting has been recognized by the Human Rights Press Award and the Kam Yiu-yu Press Freedom Award, and has also appeared in a wide range of publications like Men’s Journal, The Guardian, Los Angeles Times, The Independent, Aperture, Dialogue Earth, New Statesman, Zolima CityMag, The Hindu, and CommonWealth Magazine.
